Determining Radiation Exposure
Recommendation by the German Commission on Radiological Protection
Adopted at the 263rd meeting of the SSK on 12 September 2013
Abstract
Article 45 of the EURATOM basic standards of 1996 stipulated that a realistic estimate be conducted of population doses arising from the practices listed in Article 44. As early as 2003 a closed meeting of the SSK Radioecology Committee conducted an expert review of the requirements and possibilities for determining radiation exposure. At the end of 2006 the SSK received the advisory request to identify and specify a list of situations where a realistic calculation of radiation exposure is possible and appropriate.
On the basis of the closed meeting and following further in depth discussions the SSK drew up this recommendation containing requirements for the determination of radiation exposure for the different objectives and the methodologies to be applied in each case.
The German version of this recommendation was published as Issue 65 of the series "Berichte der Strahlenschutzkommission" (Reports of the Commission on Radiological Protection).
