Implementation of the dose limit for members of the public for the sum of exposures from all authorised practices
Recommendation by the German Commission on Radiological Protection
Adopted at the 274th meeting of the SSK on 19/20 February 2015
Abstract
According to the Directive 2013/59/Euratom, which should be implemented by the Member States into national law by 6 February 2018, the effective dose limit of 1 mSv per calendar year for a member of the public should apply to all practices subject to official licensing and notification requirements. However, exposures involving materials released from regulatory control and practices exempt from regulatory control do not need to be taken into consideration.
The SSK recommends to draft “General Administrative Provisions relating to Practices” which outline how the limit for the sum of exposures from all authorised practices can be taken into account when authorising practices, what influence it should have on estimating doses for members of the public and how results should be evaluated.
