The committee's topics are:
- Implementation of radiation protection principles, especially the optimisation of ionising radiation exposure during medical applications
- Evaluation of diagnostic radiation exposure in medicine (benefit – risk, dose reduction)
- Evaluation of novel radiotherapeutic applications
- Radiation protection when applying radioactive substances and ionising radiation in medical research
- Training of physicians, medical physics experts and other medical personnel involved in medical applications of ionising radiation.
- Compiling and updating of recommendations for medical imaging procedures
- Statements and recommendations on the national implementation of international directives and recommendations (e. g. EURATOM directives, ICRP recommendations)
- Statements on decisions proposed by the German Federal Joint Committee (G-BA), if they pertain to methods applying radioactive substances or ionising radiation to humans.
- Quality control in medical applications of ionising radiation (in collaboration with the Committee on Radiological Protection Technology)
