The German Commission on Radiological Protection advises the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) on issues concerning the protection from the risks of ionising and non-ionising radiation.

Membership in the SSK is an honorary personal office. The members are appointed by the BMUKN. They are independent and not bound by directive. As a result of its advisory activity, SSK decides on statements and recommendations. Results adopted by majority vote are published by the competent Federal Ministry and on this website.
